Apply to be a 2012 Welcome Leader TODAY!
Welcome Leader (WL) is a leadership and mentoring opportunity open to ALL students interested in assisting first year students in their transition to UT! You need no previous leadership experience to serve in this exciting role. Each WL will serve as a mentor and guide to approximately 20-25 students and introduce them to campus through Welcome Week activities, August 16-22nd. In this volunteer position, the WL will guide freshmen through Welcome Week, with a focus on providing a quality transitional experience for these students. Gain excellent leadership experience and share your passion for UT with all incoming new students! This is a great opportunity to have a big impact on UT, with a small time commitment!
Expectations
- Create a welcoming and inclusive environment for freshmen
- Represent the University of Tennessee professionally, appropriately, and with pride at all times
- Facilitate activities within Welcome Week Groups (about 20-25 new students)
- Lead small group of students through PlayFair teambuilding activity
- Track small group attendance and participation
- Promote and support the importance and significance of all Welcome Week Events
- Guide Welcome Week group through the Welcome Week activities
- Support college-specific Welcome Week activities
- Maintain a professional mentoring relationship with students
- Read the current Life of the Mind
- Collaborate with the Life of the Mind discussion leader to facilitate dialogue on the book
- Complete pre and post program evaluations
- Disaffiliate from Greek Organizations for duration of Welcome Week
- Assist with managing large-scale Welcome Week events such as Freshman Picnic and Torch Night
- Adherence to all University of Tennessee policies and procedures
- Check email during the entire time serving as a Welcome Leader. This includes over the summer.
- Complete miscellaneous duties as necessary
Training Expectations
- Participate in 1-2 hour weekly training meetings starting the week of March 12th through the week of April 23rd. Meeting days and times are flexible. These meetings will be lead by Welcome Leader Student Coordinators
- Attend August training meetings beginning Thursday, August 16th

Requirements to Submit an Application include:
- Be a full-time, returning student for the Fall 2012 semester
- A 2.0 Cumulative GPA
- Good judicial standing with the Office of Judicial Affairs
- Participate in the Welcome Leader group interview process from January 30 – February 3
