The University of Tennessee Volunteer Center, in pursuit of active community service and outreach, seeks to provide opportunities for their students to invest themselves in the world around them and for each student to be and become responsive citizens aware of and concerned with civic organizations and activities in the community.

We believe that through this involvement and awareness that students learn what community is and commit to becoming proactive participants in it now and in the future.

TeamVOLS stands for Volunteer Outreach for Leadership and Service and is the volunteer organization for the university.  The organization seeks to provide UT students with community service opportunities in Knoxville, the state of Tennessee, and various cities throughout the United States.  TeamVOLS is housed in the Volunteer Center, which is located in the University Center room 315 A.

Weekly volunteer opportunities are provided through TeamVOLS through various outreach areas that are coordinated by student ‘Outreach Coordinator’s.  Programs cover a wide variety of student interests.  If you have an interest, we have a program that can help you get involved!

Every year, TeamVOLS takes Alternative Break trips in the fall and the spring.  Students apply and interview to be selected to serve on one of the teams.  The destinations are only revealed once the teams have been selected.  Our goal is find students who are truly interested in performing meaningful community service rather than traveling to a certain city.  Selection for Alternative Fall Break occurs during August; selection for Alternative Spring Break occurs during January.  Past trip destinations include Miami, FL, Boone, NC, San Antonio, TX, New Orleans, LA, Lexington, KY, Atlanta, GA, Chicago, IL, New York, NY, and many more.  Each trip is coordinated by undergraduate students who apply, interview, and are selected as Alternative Break leaders during the previous spring.

Please visit the TeamVOLS office to learn more about the community service opportunities through the Volunteer Center.  You may also contact us by phone at (865) 974-8481 or by email at teamvols@utk.edu.
