The purpose of the Visual Arts Committee is to promote appreciation of the visual arts by exposing the University community to a variety of artistic ventures and educational displays. This is to be done through various forms of programming including exhibits, live demonstrations, permanent purchases, and lectures intended to illuminate new perspectives and address pertinent questions of the campus-wide audience.
The Visual Arts Committee manages the exhibitions in the University Center Concourse Gallery, changing shows every four to six weeks. Some of our past exhibitions include a display of TVA Dam Photographs, Joel Trussell’s cartoons, the photography of Andrew Kornylak and Caroline Allison and a visual timeline to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of African American Achievement on campus. In Spring 2012, the Visual Arts Committee brought nationally recognized collector and mental health advocate, founder of Post Secret, Frank Warren. We have brought artists of all media to lecture including Jane South, Sebastiaan Bremer, and Steven Hull working together with other campus organizations like the Sculpture Club, the Print Club, the Black Cultural Center and the Ewing Gallery with whom we have helped organize and sponsor the annual student art competition.
